Miami has announced the hiring of Edward Edson to be the assistant coach for the RedHawks’ powerhouse women’s swimming and diving team. He will replace Phil Kraus, who left Miami to become an assistant for the women’s swimming and diving squad at South Carolina. Edson comes to Miami from Division III Connecticut College, where he was the assistant coach for two years and was in charge of strength and conditioning programs as well as running recruiting for both the men’s and women’s teams.

Edson coached one Division III All-American for the Camels, Kate Kovenock, and also helped lead the men’s and women’s teams to record-breaking years in 2005, including an all-time high finish for the men in conference standings. As a coach, he was invited to camps at both SEC powerhouse Auburn and Division III’s Kenyon College, whose swim teams are the most dominant varsity athletics program in the nation. Equally important for the Miami program, his teams at Connecticut excelled academically, finishing among the best in the nation in terms of GPA. Edward Edson should be a fantastic fit for the women’s swimming and diving team at Miami, where excellence in the pool and in the classroom aren’t just desired, they’re expected. We here at MHT welcome him to Oxford.
