2011 Target: Stevie Taylor was offered by Akron last year as a freshman. Ohio and James Madison have now also offered this sophomore. Besides Miami, he also has interest from interest from Georgetown, Virginia Tech, WVU, William & Mary, St. Joesph's, UNC-Charlotte, Marshall, Dayton, Tennessee, Ohio State, Florida Atlantic, Clemson, Xavier, and Cincinnati. Taylor plays summer AAU ball with the U-16 (2011) Ohio Basketball Club (OBC) (was one of the top U-15 AAU teams in the country last summer). OBC won the U-14 AAU Nationals in 2007. In 2008, OBC won three prestigious tournaments: Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions in North Carolina, Pittsburgh Jam Fest, and the Adidas It Takes 5ive Classic in Cincinnati. OBC also finished in second place at the Buckeye Prep Invitational and made the final four at the Adidas Super 64 in Vegas. In 2007, Hoopscooponline ranked Taylor the 20th best player in the country. From J.J. Huddle (Gahanna Lincoln sophomore Taylor one of Ohio’s fastest rising stars):"When everybody is gunning for you and you have the best team, that makes it kind of intense," Taylor said. "But I love those types of games, so that’s fun." Taylor has built a reputation as a strong ball handler. He takes pride in his ability to beat pressure and find his teammates in position where they can score. "I don’t look for my points," Taylor said. "I am a pass-first point guard. I am going to try and get my shot up if it’s open. If it’s open, I’m going to try and knock it down. But I don’t try to shoot first. I try to pass it to one of my teammates. That makes me look good and makes them look good."Taylor has also received high praise from ESPN:
June, 2008: Pound for pound, Taylor is one of the most dynamic prospects in the class of 2011. Despite being drastically undersized, he has a big presence at the point guard position. He is an obviously self-confident player who has tremendous instincts and a great feel for the game. He can single handedly control the tempo of the game and is the unquestioned leader of his team. He is an absolute wizard with the basketball, as it is practically an extension of his hand. He is an equally effective passer who can put the ball wherever he wants. It is almost impossible to keep him out of the lane, where he can find teammates anywhere on the floor or score with a floater that he has virtually mastered. He is also a very good three-point shooter off both the catch and the dribble. He will even come down the floor and quickly pull-up from behind the arc every once in a while just to keep defenders honest. Taylor%u2019s only noticeable liability is his lack of size and strength. Consequently, the only question concerning his potential is how much will he grow and fill out his frame in the next few years. If he still has a growth spurt in him than his potential is virtually limitless. If not, he is likely to still be recruited at the high-major level.Taylor started off the season on the right foot scoring 27 in the season opening victory over Whetstone and 34 in a game versus Lancaster. Buckeye Report Profile... Rival$.com Profile... $cout.com Profile... Last year as a frosh, Taylor was ranked the #1 point guard and #4 player overall at The Freshman All-American Camp. Report from the Pangos Frosh/Soph All-American Camp in Atlanta in October, 2008:
Stevie Taylor, a 5 ’9 PG from Gahanna, OH (Lincoln), established himself as one of the top floor generals in the event. Although Taylor has the ability to score the ball (in the all-star game he was the second leading score in the game with 14 points), his game is more about making players around him better, and leading his team. If great point guard our judged by wins, then Taylor should be considered one of the best, as he led his camp team to a 4-0 finish, then guided a loaded all-star team to a victory.
