About Miami Hawk Talk Recruiting Information

The recruiting information contained on this site is information about student/athletes BELIEVED to be targeted by Miami University for various varsity athletic sports. The lists are far from complete and are not officially endorsed in any way by Miami University, its coaches or administration.

These pages will be updated as information is made available. Information may not be complete or timely and is compiled by newspaper articles, internet recruiting sites, and, of course, by Miami Hawk Talk Field Reporters. Players may "verbally" commit to a program, however, such committment is not binding until officially executing a "National Letter of Intent" (NLI).

Miami coaches and or its staff are not permitted to discuss or comment on potential recruits until after the signing of a NLI. The signing period for fall sports such as football begins in early February and runs until early April; basketball and other winter sports have an early signing perdiod in mid-November and a late signing period from April to May.

ORLANDO—***

Another player who impressed us is a potential All Mid-American Conference performer in future Miami Ohio Red Hawk Josh Sewell (Louisville, KY./ Trinity). Sewell is a wing player who goes about 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds. He has the size, strength, skill and toughness to immediately help veteran head coach Charlie Coles from the first day he reports to Oxford, Ohio.

***

Surprise player

Sewell (Louisville, KY./ Trinity) is a strong and versatile perimeter player who has an excellent court presence because he is extremely active and aggressive. He is tough and competes on both ends of the floor. In transition, Sewell runs the outside lane and does a great job attacking the basket with his athletic ability, body control and concentration. He also finishes on a consistent basis. He is a good ball handler and passer. Sewell looks very comfortable with the ball and is a willing passer when he draws a second defender. Sewell not only scores in transition but he slashes and power drives to the basket where he is strong enough to score through contact. He also recognizes mismatches and will not hesitate to post a smaller perimeter defender whom he can elevate over or power through. He has a good midrange game and can knock down the open 3 with time—although he must strive to be more consistent from beyond the arc. Sewell is a decent rebounder but could be more productive on the glass given his size and strength. Defensively, he is capable of defending all three perimeter positions.

Coles on…

...Sewell…

"Josh Sewell, in my mind, is the most aggressive perimeter player I’ve ever signed as a head coach,” said Coles. “This guy is aggressive on offense, he takes the ball to the basket, he’s got a great pull-up jump shot, needs to work on his outside shot a little bit, but boy can he get fouled. On defense, he’s equally as aggressive. Physically, he could play for our basketball team right now. That’s what excites me most about him. He’s ready to play physically and he’s ready to play mentally."

...and q…

"Quinten Rollins is probably the best combo football/basketball player we’ve ever signed,” said Coles. “This young man had over 350 yards of total offense against Cincinnati Turpin in a playoff game a few weeks ago. Quinten is equally as good on the basketball floor, and probably better. If he had decided to play football, he would probably have been a high recruit, but he loves basketball and tells me he loves Miami University, and I’m so glad because I think this guy can come in, along with Josh Sewell, and play right away and not give up anything."

...and Harris…

"If someone would ask me who has the most professional potential of any guy that I’ve signed since (Wally) Szczerbiak, it would be Jon Harris,” remarked Coles. “He’s 6-foot-8, very thin, but very skilled. He shoots an outside jump shot and really can shoot the ball. Plus, unlike most 6-foot-8 kids, he can get the shot off on his own. He doesn’t need a screen. His biggest drawback right now is physical strength. It may take him a month or two when he gets here, but there’s no doubt in my mind that that young man is headed for basketball success.”
