About Miami Hawk Talk Recruiting Information

The recruiting information contained on this site is information about student/athletes BELIEVED to be targeted by Miami University for various varsity athletic sports. The lists are far from complete and are not officially endorsed in any way by Miami University, its coaches or administration.

These pages will be updated as information is made available. Information may not be complete or timely and is compiled by newspaper articles, internet recruiting sites, and, of course, by Miami Hawk Talk Field Reporters. Players may "verbally" commit to a program, however, such committment is not binding until officially executing a "National Letter of Intent" (NLI).

Miami coaches and or its staff are not permitted to discuss or comment on potential recruits until after the signing of a NLI. The signing period for fall sports such as football begins in early February and runs until early April; basketball and other winter sports have an early signing perdiod in mid-November and a late signing period from April to May.

2010 Prospect:  This power forward can absolutely jump out of the gym.  An athletic power forward who dunks hard and often (see videos below).  He plays AAU with All-Ohio Red 16's - one of the best, if not the best, AAU teams in the nation.

Weatherspon has shown an ability to bang inside and sky above the rim with his high-level athleticism.  Along the way, the big man has shown an ability to pick and pop in the midrange and, at times, out to the three point line.

From ESPN Recruiting Page:

Class of 2010 small forward J.D. Weatherspoon has decided to reopen his recruitment following former Xavier head coach Sean Miller’s departure to Arizona, the Columbus Dispatch reports.

“I was really attached to coach Miller, but I understand that he had to do what was best for him and his family,” said Weatherspoon, “He’s a great coach, and I would certainly think about going to Arizona if he asked me to go there. Basically, it’s back to the drawing board as far as looking at colleges.”

Weatherspoon was being recruited by Wisconsin, Akron, James Madison and Georgia Tech before choosing the Musketeers. He averaged 15 points and eight rebounds as a junior in leading Northland High to the Division I state title.
