About Miami Hawk Talk Recruiting Information

The recruiting information contained on this site is information about student/athletes BELIEVED to be targeted by Miami University for various varsity athletic sports. The lists are far from complete and are not officially endorsed in any way by Miami University, its coaches or administration.

These pages will be updated as information is made available. Information may not be complete or timely and is compiled by newspaper articles, internet recruiting sites, and, of course, by Miami Hawk Talk Field Reporters. Players may "verbally" commit to a program, however, such committment is not binding until officially executing a "National Letter of Intent" (NLI).

Miami coaches and or its staff are not permitted to discuss or comment on potential recruits until after the signing of a NLI. The signing period for fall sports such as football begins in early February and runs until early April; basketball and other winter sports have an early signing perdiod in mid-November and a late signing period from April to May.

Scott County standout Richie Phares is playing with the Derek Smith Allstars summer and he’s is drawing a ton of interest from colleges.  The 6-foot-7, 220-pound Phares is a physical post player who has shown improvement in his all-around game, including from the perimeter, this spring.  Phares said he has an offer from Georgetown College and was recently watched by Xavier. He’s also heard from Cincinnati and the old staff at Western Kentucky, along with Kent State.  "I’m just going to play it out and see how it goes," Phares said. "I need to work on my ballhandling and shooting a little bit. I am just trying to improve my game."

Phares’ ESPN Profile evaluation reads:

November, 2007: Richie Phares is a physical post player who is continuing to develop his game. Phares played mostly JV basketball as a sophomore, but is quickly becoming a dominant inside player in the state of Kentucky. Phares is a good athlete and is very physical. He loves to create contact and loves to bang in the paint. His post game is coming along, but he needs to develop his skills both inside and out. He is a very good position rebounder and can finish in traffic. As Phares develops, he will need to become better at putting the ball on the floor and making jump shots because at 6-7, he currently scores all of his points inside the paint.
