2008 PROSPECT: Javonte averaged 23.1 points and 6.0 assists per game as a senior at Reynoldsburg (OH) High School. Two-time first team Central District pick and was named Player of the Year in 2006...Named first team Associated Press Central District Player of the Year, Franklin County Mr. Basketball and was one of five candidates for the 20th annual Mr. Ohio Basketball. Originally in the class of 2006, he signed a LOI with Niagara and played 4 games for the Purple Eagles in 2006. However he was suspended for one game after being charged and convicted for disorderly conduct. He left Niagara and transferred to Blinn College in Brenham, Texas. While at Blinn he visited and committed to Big 12 program Colorado. On November 19, 2007, Javonte signed a LOI with the Buff's. However, this past season, Clanton had to leave school twice because of family issues and was removed from the Blinn roster missing the Region XIV Tournament. Javonte and Colorado agreed that it would be in Javonte's best interest for him to play closer to home and the Buff's released Javonte from his LOI. Immediately upon the release Miami, Cincinnati, Bowling Green and other schools made contact with Clanton (Rival$ 3.19.08 "Clanton Moving On From Colorado"). While playing for Blinn, Clanton averaged 10.5 ppg, 2.5 apg and shot 54% from the field. Blinn College Assistant Coach Tra Arnold on Clanton:

"“He’s a really good kid. I know that they (Colorado) recruit high-character kids. He’s a joy to be around. He plays hard all time. He’ll fit what they’re trying to do up there. He shoots the ball really well, a good team player. He’s a hard-nosed type kid. Whatever you need to be done, he’ll do it for you. He’s just been blessed with the ability to play. He can score off the ball, or he can score with it in his hands.”
Colorado Head Coach Jeff Bzdelik on Clanton:
""Javonte brings experience, toughness and a high skill level to blend in well within the Colorado system."
