About Miami Hawk Talk Recruiting Information

The recruiting information contained on this site is information about student/athletes BELIEVED to be targeted by Miami University for various varsity athletic sports. The lists are far from complete and are not officially endorsed in any way by Miami University, its coaches or administration.

These pages will be updated as information is made available. Information may not be complete or timely and is compiled by newspaper articles, internet recruiting sites, and, of course, by Miami Hawk Talk Field Reporters. Players may "verbally" commit to a program, however, such committment is not binding until officially executing a "National Letter of Intent" (NLI).

Miami coaches and or its staff are not permitted to discuss or comment on potential recruits until after the signing of a NLI. The signing period for fall sports such as football begins in early February and runs until early April; basketball and other winter sports have an early signing perdiod in mid-November and a late signing period from April to May.

Brad Bednar

Position OL Height 6-5 Weight 240 40 speed 4.9 School Mentor Hometown Mentor, OH Incoming Year 2008
Offered By Bowling Green, Air Force, Miami, Ball State

2008 PROSPECT: A 3-year starter who has a huge frame and is receiving a lot of attention from MAC and Big10 schools.  As a junior in 2006, Bednar was named First Team All-Northeast Ohio District and Second Team All-Ohio Division I.  Brad will add strength and size.  Here’s ESPN’s evaluation of Brad:

Bednar is a scrappy, but undersized offensive tackle prospect. He has upside, but needs to get into a college weight program and add some serious bulk to his frame. He is a physical kid. He will make good initial contact and use his hands. He needs to work on getting better placement with his hands. He is not afraid to knock heads with anyone, but will let a defender get into chest and deliver the blow at times. He plays with solid leverage, but a lack of bulk makes it hard for him to generate push. When he gets an angle he can wash a defender out of the way. He moves well and looks comfortable when asked to pull. He can seem a little out of control, but is quick enough to get on his target, swing around, and seal him. He does a good job of getting up to the second level. He displays the ability to get a piece of moving targets. He has a good motor and hustles around. He is a solid pass blocker. He plays with knee bend and keeps a good base. He needs to do a better job of punching as he will almost catch the rusher at times and receive the blow. He does a good job of staying low and anchoring, but needs more size to help him hold his ground. He displays the ability to move his feet and mirror a rusher. With edge rushers he will open up too quickly and give the edge. He needs to work on kicking back and staying square. Bednar has some potential, but he is a developmental guy. He will need a red-shirt year and probably more to grow into his body. Could develop into a solid college player if given the time.
