About Miami Hawk Talk Recruiting Information

The recruiting information contained on this site is information about student/athletes BELIEVED to be targeted by Miami University for various varsity athletic sports. The lists are far from complete and are not officially endorsed in any way by Miami University, its coaches or administration.

These pages will be updated as information is made available. Information may not be complete or timely and is compiled by newspaper articles, internet recruiting sites, and, of course, by Miami Hawk Talk Field Reporters. Players may "verbally" commit to a program, however, such committment is not binding until officially executing a "National Letter of Intent" (NLI).

Miami coaches and or its staff are not permitted to discuss or comment on potential recruits until after the signing of a NLI. The signing period for fall sports such as football begins in early February and runs until early April; basketball and other winter sports have an early signing perdiod in mid-November and a late signing period from April to May.

Evan Klepec

Position DL Height 6-4 Weight 245 40 speed 4.9 School Boardman Hometown Youngstown Incoming Year 2008
Offered By Miami, Cincinnati, Army, Ball State, Ohio, Kent

Initially posted by NickSkin on 06/07/07 at 10:42 am

2008 PROSPECT: Klepec is one of the most impressive defensive ends in the Ohio class with a big frame and long arms. He blows up blockers and pulls down runners with one hand. He plays the weak side in high school but projects as a strong side defensive end. Battled a high ankle sprain last season that kept him out about 1/2 of the season but still had 32 total tackles, five tackles for loss, three sacks, three fumble recoveries, and two pass break up in four games of play.  This off-season, Klepec has worked on his strength, footwork and speed trying to get his forty time under 5.0. He also participates in spring track and is ranked No. 3 in the state in the discus.  Schools interested include: Miami, Maryland, Purdue, Wisconsin, Akron, Kent, Cincinnati, Ohio

Attended Miami’s Junior Day and had this to say about Miami:

“I like how they’re one of the bigger schools in the MAC. They have a real good football history. It is a great place to get an education and I would like to pursue and education degree”

Ohio High Recruiting Editor Duane Long says this about Evan:

“Klepec is not only one of the most impressive defensive ends I have seen this year, but he is one of the most impressive players I have seen in this class.  He is an excellent pass rusher but he excels versus the run as well. Klepec is so strong at the point of attack and has such a great body I could see someone taking him and moving him to defensive tackle.  If he goes to camp and shows he has put the injury behind him, this could be one of the fastest rising prospects in the state come this summer.

ESPN.com Recruit Profile - Rank of 70 and evaluation of Evan:

Klepec is a prospect with some upside. He has a tall rangy frame. He has adequate size now and should with some time be able to add more bulk. He has a solid get-off and is physical at the point of attack. He displays the ability to take on a blocker and hold his ground. He is adequate at using his hands, but needs to work at getting position and creating separation. He is a bit of collision type player that will engage a blocker shoulder first. He does in run situations do a good job of playing half-a-man and allowing himself a chance to play off a block and make a play. He is a solid tackler and will use his reach to reel a ball carrier in. At times he can charge up-field and run himself out of the play. He does display the ability to come off the ball and fill space. He moves well laterally and can make a play down inside. He can get an up-field charge as a pass rusher. He flashes the ability to throw a move to quickly beat a blocker. For the most part though he needs to work on having a plan of attack. He will come at blocker, head up and needs to work on attacking and more quickly working by a blocker. Klepec displays the skills to develop into a solid defensive end.
