Trevor Behmke

Offered By Miami

2008 PROSPECT: Trevor can play DE, TE or OL in college.  Beyond his impressive work in the classroom, Trevor has also competed in basketball (two year player who left the team to concentrate on football), Lacrosse (played as a freshman, but has given the sport up to devote his time to football) and track, where he also set school records for his impressive high jump skills.  Interested schools include: Boston College, Rutgers, U-Conn, Pittsburgh, Michigan, Penn State and Michigan State.  Here’s a March 5, 2007 quote from Max Emfinger

"Behmke is an absolute beast of a defensive end. It is absolutely a sin for this kid to not have twenty offers by March 5th, because he is as good as any defensive end that I have seen this season. In his first five plays on his highlight film, he made two tackles behind the line of scrimmage, blocked a punt, and raced fifty yards downfield to make a touchdown-saving tackle. Behmke has great hands and plays wide receiver and tight end on offense. I’m sure that he could make a great tight end at the next level, but with his quickness, agility, and willingness to try to make every tackle, I would recruit him to play defense. I was so impressed with Behmke on his highlight film, I called his house to invite him to play in the 2008 All-American Bowl Game Classic and wouldn’t you know it...he was at work. He did call me back and he has accepted my invitation. This kid is an emotional leader on and off of the field and he looks to be very athletic. “

$cout 7.6.07 “Behmke Goes on Camping Spree"

Trevor camped all over this summer including Miami where he walked away with a scholarship.  Find out what he has to say about Miami and his recruiting coach Tim Cooper.  A visit to Miami is scheduled in August.

Behmke could play defensive end or tight end at the collegiate level or could also grow into a lineman on either side of the ball depending on how his body fills out.

ESPN’s ScoutsInc consideres Trevor the #54 TE in the nation and gives him a grade of “72”.  Here’s its evaluation of him:

Behmke is a good-looking physical prospect. He possesses a fine blend of size, speed and athleticism. Currently employed as a tight end and defensive end; continued physical development could ultimately dictate college position. We feel he will start college off on the offensive side of the ball. He is very balanced in the run and pass game. Plays with good initial leverage as an in-line blocker and flashes adequate-to-good hand technique and separation on his lockout. Effectively turns out defenders creating run lanes and can come down hard on the wash block. Shows good coordination and hands as a route runner. Consistently extends away from his frame to make the difficult grab and can absorb the big hit in traffic. Demonstrates deceptive initial quicks and separation speed on intermediate routes. After the catch, he will lower the shoulder and look to drag the pile; he is physical and can be a tough kid to bring down once he builds up full speed. He will not run away from many defensive backs but possesses enough straight-line speed to move the chains at the high school level. Our main concern is that his competitive speed and superior strength will balance out in college against bigger and faster defenders. Will struggle improving transition quickness and straight-line speed after the catch; he is not a great fast-twitched athlete. We would like to see him continue adding good bulk while retaining current athleticism to maintain his his physical advantage after the catch. Will need added size and strength to compliment his current blocking skills. At times, he can lean as a drive blocker lacking good power and explosiveness in his upper and lower-body. Behmke’s adequate-to-good take-off, penetration and hand strength at defensive end adds to his upside. Solid, non-flashy prospect with good promise at the next level.
