From ESPN:
If a college program has patience to mold an outside linebacker-- this could be the guy. Kelly possesses a tall, rangy body that could easily tip the scales at 240 pounds once he enters a fulltime college weight-training program. While he is still physically developing and growing comfortable with his body-- we see flashes of a great prospect. Currently shows a bit more athleticism and fluidity in his coverage skills than as a run supporter. This is a promising sign for a player who still needs physical grooming. Displays good skills as a zone dropper. He is smooth with his hips and turns and consistently gets enough depth to level off. Gives you good scheme versatility with his ability to collision and wall off slots in zone or stick adequately to their hips in man. This kid may be lean and at leverage disadvantage with his height, but he plays with an edge and will step up at the point of attack with good physicality. He is at his best attacking vertically off his perimeter and utilizing his adequate-to-good short-area closing speed to make plays in the backfield. Demonstrates adequate ability holding force on the perimeter and stringing the play out to the side line. This skill should improve with increased upper-body strength for separation. Deceptively demonstrates good range and sideline-to-sideline speed on run support-- his long strides allows him to cover ground quickly. Lateral mobility is not a current strength with his lanky body, but he does flash promise sliding under blocks with his quick feet and shedding over with his long arms and raw strength. While read-and-reaction skills are good on straight-line plays that he can attack vertically, we have concerns about his reactive athleticism on misdirection and split flow plays. When he sits and reads his large frame is susceptible to cutoff blocks, and he becomes just an ordinary linebacker. We feel he would be best in a scheme that places him outside the direct traffic and lets him pursue in space. Still needs improvement playing on the outside and holding the perimeter. At times, his lack of bulk hinders his ability fight off the seal and reach block on the edge. Struggles in space mirroring quicker skill players with his marginal change-of-direction quickness and full speed body control. Inability to breakdown in space is evident when tackling. Consistently, lunges at ball carriers and tackles from the ground-- we have yet to see him re-direct, square up his shoulders and bring his hips through a ball carrier. Short-range burst and fast-twitched athleticism are the big areas of concern; the rest can be coached up. If he does not progress at backer, he should still be a solid vertical attacker as a 5 technique or an outside backer in a 3-4.
