2008 PROSPECT: Julian has only been playing organized basketball since his Freshman year yet his progression and skill development has been astounding. He's performed well at Purdue and Butler's team camps, as well as Indiana's elite camp. Julian is a skilled and powerful forward. The first thing that stands out with him is his build. He’s able to use his big body to punish defenders around the basket. Early attention has come from Ball State, Bradley, Dayton, Miami (Fl), Miami, NIU, SIU, Illinois, Northwestern, Purdue and WMU. Julian attended Indiana’s midnight madness. After that visit the 6’7” junior continued south on Saturday to Southern Illinois, where he was offered by the Salukis, and on Sunday to Evansville. They are second and third Missouri Valley school Mavunga has visited this fall.
The developing power forward is made visits this weekend to Kent State and Miami, and he has also made visits to Ball State, Butler, Indiana State, and Butler. Miami offered Julian as did Ball State, Kent, Indiana State, and Western Illinois joining Southern Illinois as the six schools which have offered Mavunga so far.
The above schools as well as Western Michigan have made visits to Brownsburg to watch Mavunga workout. A small period of rest delayed a visit from Purdue. Ohio State (Julian visited), Purdue, Illinois, Northwestern, and Penn State, Dayton, Penn State and St. Louis have called Mavunga since the end of the summer. Hoosier Report 10.18.06

2008 Miami target Julian Mavunga and his U17 Spiece Select 2008 team ran the table (3-0) on Friday and Saturday and were set to start off this evening in tournament action in the Hoosier Shootout. This morning Julian went for 14 points and 11 rebounds as Spiece Select battled a very feisty Georgia Stars Black.
So far Miami has had a least one coach at each of his games; something not done by any other school recruiting Julian. Over 15 coaches were on hand to watch Julian this morning help his team to a victory. Not only was Miami coach Frankie Smith watching Julian but coaches from Michigan, Purdue, Ohio and VTech also showed up. It’s been rumored that Julian will visit both VT and George Mason before making his decision but I don’t believe George Mason had any coaches on hand to watch Julian in any of his first 3 games. A VT coach did show up this morning but not until almost the first half was completed.
Mavunga is a 6’7” active and athletic power forward that has nice interior skills and can hit mid range shots very well. He does step out around 3-point land (hit 2-3 in the game this morning) but is better suited as an inside player. Nice handle who can drive past players his size or bigger.

He finished in total with 23 offers, and last fall he visited Ball State, Dayton, Evansville, Kent State, Indiana State, IUPUI, Miami, Southern Illinois, and Toledo. Visits to Indiana and Purdue were made too but did not accompanying scholarship offers. Offers from George Mason and Wichita State came during the April period, and Penn State, Pittsburgh, and Virginia Tech got involved as well.
