2007 PROSPECT:Mike is a huge OL who should be one of the top OL in Ohio for 2007. Mike Madsen made big strides his junior season to land the starting offensive tackle job and helped lead running back Nate Burney to second place all-time on the Mooney rushing list. Madsen has great size with very long arms that helps him keep separation from defenders. He moves well and that’s why Mooney has no problem pulling him from tackle on the counter trey where he does a great job sealing linebackers. He has the body control to adjust on the run. Madsen consistently gets out to the second level of blocking to create big plays in the running game. Madsen has a 3.8 GPA Cardinal Mooney Football Page. #78 in the Picture: $cout Profile Free Video from Scouting Ohio.com

Kent has offered. Northwestern, Illinois, Duke, Navy, Air Force, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Cincinnati are also showing interest.
Here is what Mike has to say about the visits he’s taken:
“I took unofficial visits to Miami and Kent State. At Miami I really liked the campus and the football facilities and weight room were unreal. It was a really nice visit.”

Scout.com reports that Madsen is a technically sound offensive lineman who was garnering strong looks from many programs throughout the Midwest before pledging.
“I committed last week. I really liked the school when I visited. They have a great football team and they are a great school for academics. I am more of a small school guy, and I think that Miami is a perfect fit for me. I had been talking to coach (Tim) Cooper on the phone, and when I went to the campus and talked to coach (Matt) Hohman and coach (Shane) Montgomery it kind of sealed the deal for me. Miami is also building some nice new facilities and a brand new indoor field. When everything is finished it will be one of the best in the U.S.”$cout 6.29.06

Ohio High has Mike as the #56 player overall and the #6 ranked OL in the State:
Madsen is a big framed, long-armed player that can really run. He is a very active kid gets downfield chasing plays that have broken for long runs.
Madsen has a lot of room to fill out and he needs time in the weight room. I have seen him listed at 6-6 and he very well could be. He plays left tackle in high school and he has a tackle’s length and a tackle’s feet. I would like to see him bending at the knee a little more, however. I don’t think he is a kid that earns early playing time for that reason. Offensive linemen and quarterbacks are the least ready to play as true freshmen so that is not out of the ordinary.
I really like to see hustle on the field with big kids. It gives some indication of their willingness to work. That is all Madsen needs. If he works, he is going to be a major contributor to some program.
The Mooney talent dictated a run first offense, so he will need to work on his pass blocking. Again, this is something that most high school linemen need to work on when they get to college.
