About Miami Hawk Talk Recruiting Information

The recruiting information contained on this site is information about student/athletes BELIEVED to be targeted by Miami University for various varsity athletic sports. The lists are far from complete and are not officially endorsed in any way by Miami University, its coaches or administration.

These pages will be updated as information is made available. Information may not be complete or timely and is compiled by newspaper articles, internet recruiting sites, and, of course, by Miami Hawk Talk Field Reporters. Players may "verbally" commit to a program, however, such committment is not binding until officially executing a "National Letter of Intent" (NLI).

Miami coaches and or its staff are not permitted to discuss or comment on potential recruits until after the signing of a NLI. The signing period for fall sports such as football begins in early February and runs until early April; basketball and other winter sports have an early signing perdiod in mid-November and a late signing period from April to May.

Erik Pupillio of the Gridiorngazette reports that Holy Name senior lineman Nate Williams gave his verbal commitment Miami after the Buffalo game. Williams was in Oxford for an unofficial visit and met with the players and coaching staff and felt comfortable enough with the program to commit to playing there next fall.

“I just liked Miami because it’s a tradition-rich school – they have a lot of tradition, just like we do at Holy Name,” Williams said. “A lot of good coaches have passed through there. I really like the current coaching staff as well. They’re a good group of guys that I could learn from quite a bit. The football team is not half bad, either. They’re had some good teams recently.”
Pupillio reports that Williams, is 6-foot-5 ½, 275 pounds started at right offensive tackle and strong-side defensive end for the Holy Name Green Wave (8-3 overall co-champs of the North Coast League title) and that the Redhawks’ coaches have told Williams that he is being projected as an OT.
“A couple of their linemen are 300 pounds and some of them are 290, so I’m not sure whether or not I can play right away as a freshman,” Williams said. “If they tell me that they want me to red-shirt and gain some weight and strength, that’s no big deal. If I red-shirt, I red-shirt. If I play, I play. “I shouldn’t have problem gaining weight. I was 250 at the end of football and basketball last year. I put on 25 pounds of healthy weight without protein, without Creatine - by just eating and lifting. I don’t see why I can’t gain even more weight.”
Williams was a member of the 2005 Gridiron Gazette pre-season North Coast League Team. He was selected at defensive end. Pupillio indicates that Big Nate has a number of things going for him:
* Size. You can’t teach 6-5 ½ and 275 pounds. Williams is tall and has long arms. * Athletic ability. Williams played soccer for many years before he ever suited up in a football uniform and also is an avid basketball player. His participation in soccer and basketball certainly has increased his agility and foot speed. Williams is athletic for a big man, which he displayed several times this season. * Nastiness. It’s the reason some fans of opposing teams don’t care for Williams, but it’s also the same reason why his coaches and a college coach like him. Williams plays to and through the whistle and loves to physically try to manhandle people. Football is a contact and collision sport, and Williams doesn’t shy away from either contact or collision.
Holy Name plays in the "North Coast League" with teams like Akron Hoban, Elyria and Lake Catholic. He has a big frame and is very mobile. Other schools recruiting Nate include: BG, Buffalo, Akron, Ohio University, BC and Pitt
