About Miami Hawk Talk Recruiting Information

The recruiting information contained on this site is information about student/athletes BELIEVED to be targeted by Miami University for various varsity athletic sports. The lists are far from complete and are not officially endorsed in any way by Miami University, its coaches or administration.

These pages will be updated as information is made available. Information may not be complete or timely and is compiled by newspaper articles, internet recruiting sites, and, of course, by Miami Hawk Talk Field Reporters. Players may "verbally" commit to a program, however, such committment is not binding until officially executing a "National Letter of Intent" (NLI).

Miami coaches and or its staff are not permitted to discuss or comment on potential recruits until after the signing of a NLI. The signing period for fall sports such as football begins in early February and runs until early April; basketball and other winter sports have an early signing perdiod in mid-November and a late signing period from April to May.

Steve McNees

Position PG Height 6-2 Weight School Shenango Hometown Pittsburgh Incoming Year 2006

Initially posted by NickSkin on 07/19/05 at 10:36 am

2006 PROSPECT: One evaluator says that McNees plays similar to Steve Nash as his style of play is very much the same. Much bigger and stronger than the more famous Steve, McNees is a crafty ball player with a knack for getting to the basket. His ball handling is flawless and with his big body he is a match-up problem for most PG’s. The only “weakness” observed by the same evaluator was Steve’s inability to knock down triples on a consistent basis.  Plays for Pittsburgh Jots (AAU) with Miami target Lance Jeter.  Plays in the tough WPIAL and was the #2 scorer with a 26.3 average.  Was named 1st Team AA Pitt Tribune All-Star team along with other Miami targets Lance Jeter and Amir Johnson.  Here’s what our friend at Hoopfactor has to say about McNees from his July 11 commentary: “Steve McNees 6-2 point guard out of New Castle, Pa. Made several difficult passes look easy. Crafty point that makes up for any lack of speed (which isn’t really a lot) with his anticipation and basketball IQ. Can stroke the three on a consistent basis as well as finish in the lane. Plays with the JOTS out of Pittsburgh (Jeters teammate, as well as Asown Sayles making the JOTS a team to be reckoned with). According to JOTS coach Jason Dolak, McNees has strong interest from almost every MAC school, an opinion supported by their presence at his games throughout the 5 days I observed him. Has an offer from Duquesne on the table. Averaged 26 points per last year playing for his dad at Shenango High School. Decent student who has qualified academically to play his freshman year. Rebounds extremely well from the guard position, while his ability to score keeps defenses honest allowing him to find teammates with the aforementioned nice looks….
