Ronnie Steward, a 5’9 Jr. point guard from Columbus’ Eastmoor High School in Columbus, Ohio, is starting to attract some serious attention from several colleges. According to Steward, several quality programs have shown interest, including: Arkansas, Xavier, Illinois, Seton Hall, Miami, Ball State, University of Dayton and Cincinnati. Despite considerable interest, Steward did not report any offers. Steward (Class of 2007) is currently ranked a top 5 PG in Ohio. Not only has Steward impressed local scouts, currently, the Hoop Scoop has him ranked 335th in the country. In terms of his strengths, Steward is a seasoned floor leader who does a good job of involving his teammates. Steward has a nice midrange game, and can pull up off the dribble or hit from beyond the arc. When asked about his weaknesses, Steward stated, “I need to work on being too unselfish. Coach wants me to shoot more. I like to get my teammates involved.” So far in his young career, Steward has enjoyed a great deal of success, including his 3 AAU and 3 BCI National Championships with the OJ Mayo-led, D-1 Greyhounds. Steward’s summer was full of events, which included a return to the Five Star Camp, the Nike Peach Jam and the Nike Jamboree. In addition to running with All-Ohio Red, this upcoming summer, Steward feels confident that he will receive an invitation to the Nike All-American Camp. Although Steward could have elected to attend perennial powerhouse Columbus Brookhaven, because he values his education, he chose Eastmoor Academy where he now carries a 3.8 GPA
