Paul does it all for University: he rotates between safety and linebacker on defense. He’s the Preppers’ prime-time tailback, punter and place-kicker. He also returns punts and kickoffs. Rice’s excellent vision, 4.53-second speed in the 40 and sure hands resulted in 1,341 rushing yards, 15 touchdowns and a team-best 82 tackles last season, and he’s on track to better those numbers. Rice already has 500 yards rushing, 107 yards receiving, six extra points and six touchdowns. He has 24 tackles, an interception and forced fumble.
Rice, who won’t turn 18 until early July, had the Ivy League recruiters all over him after his stellar junior season. Now, he’s getting serious looks from Division I schools like Miami (Ohio), Virginia, West Virginia and Indiana. The self-proclaimed Ohio State fan likes Miami “a lot,” but it’ll be hard not to consider the Ivy League. His dad, Louis, played safety for Harvard. “My dad gets pretty excited whenever I get a call or letter from Harvard, but he’s leaving the decision to me,” Rice said. “Right now, I’m keeping my options open. “I just want to keep playing and see what other Division I schools become interested in me.”
Cleveland Plain Dealer 8.28 on Rice
