About Miami Hawk Talk Recruiting Information

The recruiting information contained on this site is information about student/athletes BELIEVED to be targeted by Miami University for various varsity athletic sports. The lists are far from complete and are not officially endorsed in any way by Miami University, its coaches or administration.

These pages will be updated as information is made available. Information may not be complete or timely and is compiled by newspaper articles, internet recruiting sites, and, of course, by Miami Hawk Talk Field Reporters. Players may "verbally" commit to a program, however, such committment is not binding until officially executing a "National Letter of Intent" (NLI).

Miami coaches and or its staff are not permitted to discuss or comment on potential recruits until after the signing of a NLI. The signing period for fall sports such as football begins in early February and runs until early April; basketball and other winter sports have an early signing perdiod in mid-November and a late signing period from April to May.

2010 PROSPECT: Djue Dukan is the son of Iviac Dukan who played for Croatian National Team and is currently the Chicago Bulls supervisor of European Scouting.  He plays on the same AAU team (Full Package) as Miami offeree Alex Dragievich.  Of Dukan, Illinois Prep Spotlight wrote recently:

We had previously stated in an issue of Illinois Hoops published by Scott Powers that Dukan was among those players that had the most to prove this summer, but that his stock would surely rise if he did prove what he could do. Well, Dukan is off to a great start as he poured in 27 points and collected 7 boards against a Team Detroit squad considered to be one of the favorites to win the NY2LA Summer Jam in Mequon, WI. Dukan is extremely long, and uses that to his advantage when getting lift and extension on his jump shot. He gets the ball off quickly and showed us that he has great range off the dribble as well. However, what most impressed us about Dukan was that he used his length to handle the ball, shield his body and protect the ball when penetrating, and demonstrated solid ability to go to the basket as well as shoot off the dribble. We had not seen much of this from Dukan before, but today he looked like Mike Dunleavy Jr. If these skills continue to surface during the July evaluation period, the college coach who told us two months ago that Dukan would "blow up" this summer deserves an immediate promotion and higher salary!

In the Chicago Sun Times Suburban/City Hoops Report, the following was written about Dukan:

By Joe Henricksen

When the City/Suburban Hoops Report's post-July reviews come out, the player that will be making the biggest jump in the Class of 2010 is Deerfield's Duje Dukan. While the Hoops Report has questioned his foot speed and lack of quickness, he simply makes up for his shortcomings in so many other ways.

The highly-skilled Dukan, who is the son of Chicago Bulls Supervisor of European Scouting Ivica Dukan, reminds the Hoops Report of a Toni Kukoc-type. Ironically, Ivica Dukan played 14 years professionally in Europe and even played with Kukoc for one year in Split, Croatia. He began working for the Bulls in 1991 and even helped in Kukoc's transition to America.

The younger Dukan is a versatile 6-8 perimeter player who can shoot, pass and dribble. He has a solid handle for his size and, with his combination of size and length, is able to get shots off when he wants to. He is one of—if not the best—shooter in the state of Illinois. He can catch-and-shoot, shoot coming off screens or shoot off the dribble. The classic pick-and-pop player.

The $100,000 question is will he be able to defend more athletic players at a higher level as his lateral quickness and foot speed are issues? He does have trouble defending the post right now and the quick athlete on the perimeter. But you know what? There are players on every college basketball roster right now who can't guard. Every team, typically, has one guy they have to hide on the defensive end. In the right system, Dukan could absolutely flourish. He can play a number of positions on the offensive end (as Kukoc did), anywhere from a point forward to a face-up 4-man if need be. He brings some intelligence to the game, along with a skill package that is tough to match for a player with his size or his age.

Dukan's AAU coach, Steve Pratt of Full Package, is stunned in the lack of higher interest in Dukan. And after recently watching Dukan in both the Chicago Summer Classic and at the Milwaukee Summer Jam, the Hoops Report agrees. Right now George Washington, Miami-Ohio, William & Mary and Wisconsin-Green Bay are pursuing Dukan the most. Those schools—and others at that level—should be salivating at the thought of getting a player like Dukan. With a solid showing in Las Vegas next week, look for that interest to pick up. While a higher level school may have to wait for him to develop more strength and mature as a player, Dukan's upside is greater than the majority of the kids in this class.

A report from the Michigan Wolverine Elite Camp:

Duje Dukan, Deerfield HS (IL)- as a 6-8 wing its hard for Dukan not to standout.  His shot is pretty much automatic when left open but at this point his body is too easy to push around.

From Slam Magazine Online "Road Trip" page:

Duje Dukan, 6-8 rising senior, Deerfield (IL): Dukan, a native of Croatia, was compared to Toni Kukoc (Kukoc’s nephew actually is his AAU teammate) by a few coaches who observed him play and while balling for his hometown Bulls may or not be in his future, he’s a savvy and versatile player in the same mold, who’s a knockdown shooter from deep, capable of handling playmaking duties and using his size to create mismatches in the paint and on the perimeter.
