Spartans will make first NCAA appearance

Thanks, Steve, for posting the news while I was hanging out at BW3, where, by the way, they couldn’t get ESPN News so the RedHawks learned of their opponent from the coaching staff.  I’m pretty sure it was the two freshmen from Michigan who have played big roles in the team’s success - goalie Leigh Terry and defender Lindsay Dunmead - who let out squeals of delight at the announcement.

The Spartans played and shut out three MAC teams - CMU 3-0, BG 4-0, and EMU 3-0 during the season.  They also won at Purdue 2-1 while the RedHawks tied the Boilermakers at home.

The RedHawks played their first ever NCAA Tournament game at Michigan in 2000.

While this is MSU’s first NCAA trip in the 17 year history of their program, it’s Miami’s third in just six years and, for the first time, the RedHawks won’t be playing the host team.
