Mike Kokal to be Starting QB
In one of the most-anticipated announcements from Miami's fall football camp, junior Mike Kokal has been named Miami's starting quarterback, according to an article on muredhawks.com.
Kokal has been Miami's top backup for the past two seasons, and his experience paid off. According to Head Coach Shane Montgomery, Kokal "entered this competition with a bit of an advantage because of his experience in our system, and he earned the job based on his consistency and ability to run our offense. We feel comfortable with Mike as our quarterback and look forward to watching his continued development."
Kokal has completed 15 of 27 passes for 139 yards in his Miami career, and started the game against UC last season.
In the release, Montgomery also revealed that redshirt freshman Daniel Raudabaugh is the #2 QB, and Jared Elliot is #3. "Daniel had a strong camp, and we're very comfortable with him as our No. 2 quarterback," Montgomery said. "Jared continues to return to full strength and has made some big steps forward in recent weeks. It's a position where we have a lot of quality depth."
