Icers take 3 at ND
The USCHO/INCH/USA Today #3 Miami ice hockey team traveled to South Bend and the cavernous JACC this weekend to face off against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. After dropping one of two to Northern Michigan at the Goggin last weekend, the RedHawks needed to get points at the cavernous JACC (I like the phrase, I think I’ll keep saying it) to ensure their spot atop the CCHA was secure. With a 2-2 tie on Friday and a 3-2 victory on Saturday, Miami did just that, netting three points on the weekend to widen the gap over second-place LSSU, who had the weekend off.
Among the weekend’s standouts were freshman Raymond Eichenlaub, who scored two goals in Saturday’s win, senior Hobey Baker candidate Andy Greene, who recorded a goal and an assist on Friday, and junior Marty Guerin, who broke a nine-game scoreless streak with an assist on Saturday. The RedHawks remained at #3 in the polls after the weekend.
