Brian Sipotz Signs With The Thrashers

The Atlanta Thrashers have agreed to terms with defensemen ... Brian Sipotz. Terms of the deals were not disclosed. Sipotz, 22, finished his collegiate career with three assists and 39 penalty minutes in 36 games with Miami University (Ohio) last season. The 6-7, 245-pound defenseman shared fourth on the club with a plus-nine rating, and also set career highs with three assists, three points and 36 games. He helped the RedHawks finish second in CCHA with 17-8-3 record for 37 points in conference games in 2003-04.

The native of South Bend, Indiana, registered five assists and 139 penalty minutes in 119 games over four seasons with Miami from 2000-04. He was selected in the fourth round, 100th overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
