Miami Sports "Trimmed" from Cincinnati Post's Beats
I had thought it odd the other day that UC and UK both had football articles in the Cincinnati Post—particularly since neither is really a football school—but yet I had seen no articles on Miami. Not even a season preview. After noting this on the MHT message board, several HawkTalkers sent civil e-mails inquiring as to where the Post’s Miami coverage was. Here is the e-mail that MHT poster twiggers received back from sports editor Frank Carini.:
Unfortunately because of recent staff cuts at the
Cincinnati Post, we had to sacrifice our Miami
coverage. We won't be staffing any Miami events this
season, except for a few. We will use wire services to
cover football and basketball games. I apologize for
the change. It wasn't an easy decision, and in no way
does it diminish the importance of Miami athletics.
No way does it diminish the importance of Miami athletics?! The staff has made a decision to not cover something, and as RSR, another poster, so eloquently stated on the boards “Well Frank, certainly it diminishes the importance of Miami athletics. If there are staff cuts and something must go, you make priority decisions. Miami athletics are obviously not high priority in the eyes of the Post, relative to other events. That certainly says something about their importance to you."
I encourage those of you who find this planned omission egregious to write another e-mail to Mr. Carini at email@example.com. My e-mail is on the way.
