New McKie Taking Shape
I was up in Oxford last week and took my first look at the construction of McKie Field. Through all the dirt and chain link, the sight was amazing. Even though the name of the field is staying the same, McKie will be completely, utterly, absolutely brand new. The field has been flipped. Home plate is now in the southwest corner of the field—where left-center used to be—and the entire field has shifted significantly to the north. Players will enjoy full dugouts, enclosed batting tunnels, protected bullpens, and a state-of-the-art grass field. Fans will enjoy better sightlines, ADA-compliant permanent restroom facilities (no more trips down the hill to the port-o-potties), and picnic areas.
If you would like to see the project as it progresses, Miami has panoramic views of the construction site at muredhawks.com that are updated every so often (most recent update is listed as July 26.) The page is located at The Link below. You can also read the Miami release about the construction project.
