Men's CC season ends with 14th place finish
The Miami men's cross-country team finished the season with a 14th place finish in the 31-team NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet on Saturday (Nov. 11) at Bowling Green. The RedHawks were lead by junior Michael Veatch, who placed 57th overall covering the 10K course in 32:35. Corey Nowitzke of Eastern Michigan finished first with a time of 30:57.
Rounding out the scoring five for Miami were sophomore Pat Sovacool (78th place, 33:04), redhsirt Kevin Silver (91st, 33:20), sophomore Brad Untrauer (92nd, 33:23), and junior Justin Campbell (96th, 33:30).
Top-ranked Wisconsin (52 points) and Notre Dame (104) earned the region's two automatic bids to the NCAA Championship meet, while Butler (107), Michigan State (113), and Eastern Michigan (137) rounded out the top five schools.
The loss of All-American performers Dan Huling and Chris Swisher to graduation left the 2006 RedHawks largely young and inexperienced. Three different runners (Sovacool, Untrauer, and Veatch) finished races this season as Miami's top runner. With the return of these three along with some other talented underclassmen expect great things from the team in 2007. Congratulations gentlemen!
