Abbey Huck
The first Hawk of the Week of the 2008-09 academic year is freshman field hockey goalkeeper Abbey Huck. Playing the first two games of her collegiate career, Abbey allowed one goal in 140 minutes of play.
In the season opener versus Davidson, Miami had five different players score as the RedHawks rolled to a 5-0 shutout victory. Huck had four saves in order to earn her first collegiate victory. In the second game of the Miami Kick-Off Classic, versus Richmond, Huck saved five shots as Miami won 6-1. Other field hockey standouts for the weekend included freshman Jackie Nguyen (2 goals) and Courtney Fretz (1 goal and 1 assist).
With the opening weekend victories, Miami opens the season 2-0 for the first time in seven years. The RedHawks work to improve their record with contests versus Northwestern and Sacred Heart (both in Evanston) this weekend.
