Breanna Robinson and Ryan Jones
Our first Hawk of the Week for this past week is senior softball outfielder Breanna Robinson. In a week where the RedHawks went 4-0, with doubleheader sweeps of Akron and OU, Breanna went 7-10 at the plate. She had two home runs, one triple, two walks, three runs scored and five RBI.
In the first game versus Akron, Breanna went 2-3, including a two run home run and two runs scored. In Miami's second win of the day, by a score of 4-1, Breanna put Miami ahead for good with a two run RBI single. Against OU, she hit a solo home run in the fourth inning of game one to plate Miami's second run in its 2-1 victory over the Bobcats. Brianna had hits in all four Miami games this past week.
For the season, Breanna has started all 26 Miami games (through Sunday) thus far and it hitting .347 (second on the team). She leads the team in triples (2), home runs ( 6 - no other player has more than one), total bases (51) and RBI (29) - these impressive power stats lead to a slugging percentage of .680. Breanna's numbers for home runs, RBI, and total bases also are tops in the Mid American Conference.
Miami softball is 13-15 overall (including two games this week) and leads the MAC with a 4-0 conference record. Of the final 20 games on the schedule, 18 are conference match ups and 12 are in Oxford. To date, only eight of Miami's 28 games have been at home. We wish Breanna and the softball team great luck throughout the rest of their season.
Our second Hawk of the Week is hockey forward Ryan Jones. While Ryan had a solid weekend statistically with one goal and one assist en route to being named to the all-regional team, we honor him here also for the effort and leadership he exhibited both this weekend and throughout his Miami career. Ryan's dedication to Miami University, both the school and the hockey program, were in evidence this weekend as exhibited by his post game comments and thoughts about his time at Miami.
