Kevin Dwyer
Our new Hawk of the Week is junior track and field athlete Kevin Dwyer (who becomes the first Miami men's field athlete ever named as HOTW!). Kevin competed in and won the decathalon last week at the Clemson Relays - the Clemson Relays are considered an important meet in track circles, and to win the decathalon is quite an impressive feat. He defeated athletes representing schools such as Minnesota, Clemson, Georgia, and Wisconsin. Kevin's point total of 7066 is the third highest in Miami history and meets the NCAA outdoor provisional mark. It was the first decathalon win of his Miami career.
While he didn't compete in the outdoor season last year due to injury, Kevin was named to the all-MAC second team as a sophomore in 2006 and finished second in the decathalon at the MAC championships. He also competed in the long jump during the 2006 outdoor season.
Miami's men's track and field athletes next compete this weekend at the Southern Ohio Cup, which Miami is hosting. Teams competing at the event include OU, UC, Dayton, Xavier, Central State, and Northern Illinois. Miami hosts a second men's track and field meet when the Miami Invitational is held on April 12th.
