Amanda Jackson
Our new Hawk of the Week is women's basketball guard Amanda Jackson. In the Mid Amercian Conference tournament this past week, AJ had 54 points (an average of 18 per game), 13 rebounds, 13 assists, and 15 steals to help lead Miami to three straight victories and the conference tournament title. As a result of her performance, AJ was named to the all-tournament team and the MVP of the tournament.
In the quarterfinal game versus WMU, AJ scored 17 points and had a career high seven steals. Included in her seven steals was the 300th of her career, which made AJ just the second player in MAC history to have 1,800 points, 500 rebounds, 300 assists, and 300 steals in a career. Versus Toledo in the semifinals, AJ had 18 points, four rebounds, five assists, and four steals. AJ then capped her stellar tournament with 19 points in the championship game victory over OU.
For the season, AJ led the RedHawks with 21 points per game (first in the MAC), 87 steals (second in the MAC), and a free throw shooting percentage of 85% (fourth in the MAC) and was named to the All-MAC first team. Her total of 690 points (and counting) broke the Miami single season record of 524 and is the third most ever scored by a MAC player in conference history. AJ also had 19 twenty point-plus games, which is also a new Miami record (thanks to Beerman for the last two notes).
