Amanda Jackson
Our new Hawk of the Week for the week ending February 17th is women's basketball star Amanda Jackson. In Miami's two victories last week, AJ had 43 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists.
Versus Ball State, AJ was Miami's leading scorer with 25 points and shared the team lead in assists with Jenna Schone with five. The game represented AJ's 17th 20 point game of the season. In Miami's win versus Toledo AJ again led the RedHawks in scoring, with 18 points (in 26 minutes) along with three assists and three rebounds. Her 18 points versus UT gave AJ 535 for the season, which is a new Miami single-season point scoring record.
For the season, AJ is leading the MAC with 22.6 points per game, is fourth in the conference in free throw percentage (84.5%), and is third in the conference in steals (59). Amanda's 22.6 points per game places her seventh in the country as well.
With it's win on Wednesday night, Miami's women's basketball team has won six in a row and continues to be tied for first place in the MAC East. On Saturday the RedHawks host defending conference champion Bowling Green in a vitally important matchup as Miami and BG are tied for first in the division at 9-3 (with OU a half game back at 8-3).
