Anastasia Dracheva
Our new Hawk of the Week is tennis player Anastasia Dracheva. Anastasia, a freshman from Moscow, Russia, won both of her singles matches this past weekend as well as teaming up with Megan Martzolf to win both of her doubles matches as Miami won its fourth and fifth consecutive matches.
In Friday's win versus East Tennessee State, Anastasia and Megan won the second doubles match of the day 8-5, helping Miami rebound from an earlier doubles loss to capture the doubles point. Anastasia then swept the number one singles match 6-3 and 6-4, as Miami defeated ETSU 5-2. On Saturday versus Eastern Kentucky Anastasia and Megan won #2 doubles 8-2. Anastasia then swept her #1 singles match 6-3 and 6-3 as Miami swept EKU 7-0. Anastasia's singles wins this weekend improved her season record in number one singles to 6-0 while the team of Anastasia and Megan are 5-1 for the season in #2 doubles - both records are team leaders.
Overall, the tennis team has won five straight matches to improve its record to 5-1 for the season, which includes wins over local rivals Dayton and UC. Every singles player and doubles team has a winning record thus far, with Miami a cumulative 29-7 (.806) in singles and 14-4 (.778) in doubles. Next up for the RedHawks is a home match versus Xavier on Sunday, their last home match until April. Prior to that, Miami will complete an ambitious non conference schedule that includes trips to Maryland and Wisconsin.
