Margarita Pogorelov
Our first Hawk of the Week for the spring semester is sophomore sprinter Margarita Pogorelov. This weekend at the Bowling Green Challenge, Margarita led a well-rounded effort by Miami's women's indoor track and field team in their first outing of 2008 as the RedHawks beat five other teams to capture the team title.
Margarita was the only Miami athlete to win two events. First, Margarita won her first event of the day, the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.57 seconds - a time which is the best of her Miami career and the second best of any MAC athlete in this young season. Later in the competition, Margarita won the 300 meter dash with a time of 40.89 seconds, which is the third fastest 300 time in Miami program history. Margarita also finished first in both the 60 meter and 300 meter dashes in Miami's only other indoor track and field meet of the season, the Findlay Open in December.
Miami's women's track and field season continues this weekend at the Eastern Illinois Invitational. Notable meets later this season for the RedHawks include the Notre Dame Invitational and the All-Ohio Championships, both in February.
