Notable Performances Over Winter Break
While most of Miami's teams have been off or on a limited schedule over the last four weeks, there have been several notable performances that we wanted to highlight before the winter/spring sports schedule begins in full force over the next week.
In women's basketball, Amanda Jackson set a Miami single game record by scoring 43 points in Miami's 90-89 double overtime loss to UT-San Antonio. AJ scored over 20 points in four of Miami's five games over the last month, including 27 points in Miami's victory over Temple.
Hockey's Jarod Palmer and Jeff Zatkoff were named to the all tournament team at the Ohio Hockey Classic, which Miami captured with victories over St. Cloud State and Ohio State. Palmer was named the tournament MVP with two goals and one assist over the weekend. Zatkoff earned both of Miami's wins at the OHC, saving 49 of 52 shots.
In men's basketball, Tim Pollitz scored 26 points in Miami's victory over Chicago State. Tim also had eight rebounds and nine assists for the game.
The most important part of the schedule for each of these teams begins this week, as both the men's and women's basketball teams enter MAC play - the women on Wednesday night at home versus Buffalo, while the men play their second MAC game with a visit to OU on Saturday. Hockey begins a series of key CCHA contests with a visit to UNO this weekend. Also, within the next several weeks, swimming, tennis, and track will resume competition as a new semester begins for Miami's student athletes.
We congratulate Amanda, Jarod, Jeff, and Tim on their fine performances over winter break, and wish all of Miami's winter/spring athletes the best of luck as athletics resumes with a full schedule.
