Miami's Fall Sports All-MAC Academic Performers
As the fall semester and another finals week have concluded, we thought it would be a good idea to honor Miami's finest student-athletes from the fall sports, the 11 athletes who earned a place on their sports' respective All-MAC Academic team.
Men's and women's cross country lead Miami's contingent with three athletes each. The honorees on the men's squad are Pat Sovacool (Zoology/Pre-Dentistry; 3.57), Michael Veatch (Physicial Education; 3.39), and Paul Krebs (Zoology/Pre-Medicine; 3.97). Both Sovacool and Veatch were first team all MAC performers this season, with Sovacool advancing to the NCAA championship meet. Pat was also an all-MAC Academic team member last season.
The three women cross country athletes honored are Jennie Stoll (Early Childhood Education; 3.74), Kelsey McHugh (Zoology; 3.78), and Sarah Henize (Zoology; 3.67). Stoll was also honored as second team all-MAC this season. Both Jennie and Sarah were all-MAC Academic honorees last season.
The other Miami sport with multiple all-MAC Academic honorees is volleyball. The honorees are Carli Reihman (Zoology/Pre-Medicine) - for the second time in her career - and Megan Griffin (Speech Pathology). Carli was also honored this season as a first team all-MAC performer and she was the MVP of the MAC tournament.
The honoree from the football team is Pat Lamonica, a finance major with a 3.41 GPA. Pat was a wide receiver and special teams standout during his four years at Miami.
The field hockey program's honoree is Danielle Gaynor, a double major in management and organizations, and sports studies where she carries a GPA of 3.67. Gaynor, an all-MAC Academic honoree last season, was named to the MAC all-Tournament team this year.
The final all-MAC Academic team member is soccer player Krista Pace, a marketing major with a 3.27 GPA. After only two seasons, Krista is already Miami's all time leader in saves, with 200.
The athletes we cheer all year long are attending Miami primarily for the opportunity to receive a superior education as well as for the opportunity to continue their athletic careers. We offer our congratulations to the 11 Miamians from the fall sports who have managed to excel both on the playing field and in the classroom.
