Laura Neufarth
Our new Hawk of the Week is sophomore cross country runner Laura Neufarth. Laura won her sixth race of the season on Saturday as she finished in first place at the MAC Championships, thus taking home the title of individual MAC Champion for the 2007 season. Laura is the fifth individual champion in program history and the first since 2003.
In her first season as a RedHawk, Laura has won all six races in which she (and Miami) has participated. It is unclear whether this string of excellence is unprecedented in program history, but it most certainly has never been eclipsed. Laura's margin of victory has ranged from 3 seconds (at the MAC championships) to 17 seconds.
Miami's women's cross country program had won all five of its races prior to finishing third at the MAC championships. These victories include wins at the all-Ohio Championships and the Bowling Green Invitational. Next up for the Redhawks is the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships on November 10th.

HONORABLE MENTION:
Honorable mention goes to ice hockey senior forward Ryan Jones. This weekend, Ryan had three goals and one assist as Miami swept UNO 7-2 and 5-2 to up its record to 6-0-0. With his first goal on Friday night, Ryan became the 40th player in program history to score 100 points in his career. Congratulations to Ryan on this milestone and on his fine weekend.
