Jeff Zatkoff and Krista Pace
Our new co-Hawks of the Week are a pair of netminders - ice hockey goaltender Jeff Zatkoff and soccer goalkeeper Krista Pace. Both players led their respective teams to a perfect 2-0 record over the weekend with outstanding play in the net.
Zatkoff started both games for Miami this weekend, as the RedHawks opened the 2007-08 season. On Friday Jeff saved 24 shots as Miami won 2-1, holding Vermont scoreless until less than three minutes remained in the game. On Saturday, Jeff saved 23 shots as Miami finished its sweep of Vermont with a 4-1 victory. For the weekend, Jeff made 47 saves of 49 shots, for a save percentage of .959. Miami starts the season 2-0 and has risen to #2 in the nation.
Krista also led Miami to two victories this weekend - twin shutouts versus Western Michigan (4-0) and Northern Illinois (2-0). For the weekend, Krista made 15 saves without allowing a goal - five versus WMU and ten versus NIU. The victories gave Krista five wins for the season and improved Miami's record to 5-5-3 (3-2-1 in the MAC).
Both soccer and ice hockey play at home this weekend. Soccer hosts Toledo and Bowling Green while ice hockey plays Ohio State at Gogign on Sunday after playing in Columbus on Friday night. For the soccer team, only one more home game remains prior to the end of the regular season.
Congratulations to Miami netminders Jeff Zatkoff and Krista Pace, both of whom led their teams to an undefeated (and almost unscored upon) weekend, on their fantastic play and on being named our Hawks of the Week.
