Kersta Carlson
Our new Hawk of the Week is soccer midfielder Kersta Carlson. In Friday’s match versus Butler, Kersta - a sophomore - scored her first collegiate goal at the six minute mark to give Miami a 1-0 lead. After Butler tied the score, Kersta scored her second goal of the match in the 77th minute to give Miami a 2-1 lead. The game ended up in a 2-2 tie. Kersta had a total of four shots on goal versus Bulter in her season debut and first career start.
Kersta’s two goals move her into third place in both team scoring and goals. It should be noted that all of Miami’s goals this season (nine) have been scored by freshman (Sara Lund, Julie Thompson) or sophomores (Kersta), indicating a bright future for the Miami soccer program.
With the tie versus Butler, Miami soccer moves to 1-2-2 for the season. This weekend Miami travels to Ann Arbor to play Michigan and then down to Cincnnati to conclude the non-conference schedule against Xavier. Miami opens up MAC play on September 28th versus Eastern Michigan, a game that represents the beginning of six out of eight matches at home.
