Julie Thompson
Our first Hawk of the Week of the 2007-2008 academic year is freshman soccer forward Julie Thompson. For the week, in her first two collegiate matches, Julie scored four of Miami's six goals on a team high eight shots on goal. All the more impressive, Julie accomplished this despite not starting either match.
In Miami's season opening 5-1 win versus Morehead State, the freshman from Illinois scored three goals for her (obviously) first career hat trick. For comparison, no Miami player scored a hat trick last season. Julie scored her first two goals 13 seconds apart midway through the second half to help Miami open up its lead to 3-0, while her third goal completed Miami's scoring. Two days later, Julie scored Miami's only goal in a 1-1 two overtime tie versus UC. Her goal came 55 minutes into the match and tied the score at one.
Miami soccer hits the Big Apple this weekend with matches against Columbia and St. John's. The RedHawks return to Oxford for a match versus Butler on September 14th.
