Halle Popson
Our new Hawk of the Week is junior softball first baseman Halle Popson. In Miami's doubleheader sweep of Buffalo, Halle went 7 for 8 with four runs scored and one RBI. Halle went 4 for 4 for the third four-hit game of her career as Miami beat Buffalo 15-0 in the first game of the twin bill. In Miami's final regular season series of the year, versus MAC regular season champion Kent State, Halle went 3 for 6 with two walks and two runs scored. Halle ignited the 9th inning rally at Saturday's come from behind 4-3 victory with a one out single, and she also scored the tying run. For the weekend, Halle went 10 for 14 (.714) with two walks and six runs scored.
Halle's fifth inning double in the second game versus Buffalo was her 75th hit of the season, breaking the previous Miami season hit record of 74 set in 1991. For the regular season, Halle finished with 78 hits and a team leading batting average of .394. In addition to hits and batting average, Halle also led the team in total bases (91), runs scored (34), on base percentage (.450), and stolen bases (13). Halle's .394 batting average was good for second in the MAC while her 78 hits led the conference.
Miami's softball team finished the regular season by winning 12 of its last 14 games to finish with a final MAC record of 14-8, good for third in the MAC East. Miami begins play in the MAC tournament this week with its first game versus Central Michigan on Wednesday.
