Ben Wood
Our new Hawk of the Week is sophomore golfer Ben Wood. This weekend, Ben won the First Energy Intercollegiate tournament in Akron for the first tournament victory by a Miami golfer since 2004. Ben entered the final round in third place, two strokes behind the leader, but made up the deficit in order to finish in a three way tie for first place. Ben then defeated two other golfers in a four hole playoff to take home the undisputed victory. For the tournament, Ben shot a one under par 215, his best three round score of the season.
For the season, Ben is second on the team with 25 rounds and is fourth on the team with an average round of 76. Prior to this tournament, Ben's best finish this season was 16th place, which he achieved twice.
Overall, Miami finished 9th at the First Energy Intercollegiate. For the season Miami has three top four finishes, including a second place finish at the Wolf Run Invitational earlier in April which represents the RedHawks' best finish since 2005.
Congratulations to Ben on his tournament victory and we wish Miami golf the best of luck as they prepare for this weekends' MAC Championships.
