Brittney Bernardoni
Our Hawk of the Week is freshman pole vaulter Brittney Bernardoni. Brittney competed for Miami at the Vanderbilt Invitational this weekend and won her event in an NCAA regional qualifying clearance of 12'6", finishing first in the field of 25 athletes. This clearance by Brittney matched her season (and career) best at Miami, and represents the third time this season that she matched or exceeded the NCAA regional qualifying clearance. Her clearance of 12'6" also represents the second best performance (tied) of any Mid Amercian Conference pole vaulter this season.
Her victory at Vanderbilt was Brittney's second first place finish of the outdoor season, and she has finished either first or second in all five of her outdoor meets thus far. Her other victory was at the OU/UC Triangular meet in March (we think it is noteworthy any time a Miami athlete beats both OU and UC at the same time!), where she also achieved her season best clearance of 12'6" that was matched this weekend.
Miami's women's outdoor track and field season continues this weekend at the Hillsdale Relays in Michigan, leading up to the MAC Outdoor Championships in Oxford starting on May 10th. After that, Brittney will continue her season at the NCAA Mideast Regional meet over Memorial Day weekend.
