Meredith Linch and Shalise Lugo
Our new Hawks of the Week are freshmen softball pitchers Meredith Linch and Shalise Lugo. Meredith and Shalise led Miami softball to a 3-2 record this week as the RedHawks split two game series' with Western Michigan and Northern Illinois and beat Marshall in a non conference match up. For the week, Shalise gave up two earned runs in 14.1 innings (1.27 ERA) with 15 strikeouts as she earned two wins this week. Of note, she pitched a complete game (five innings) against WMU, giving up no runs and only one hit while striking out six in Miami's 8-0 run rule victory. Meredith earned a win and a save this week while pitching in four of Miami's five games - she started two games and relieved in two others. Overall, Meredith gave up two earned runs in 18.2 innings (0.99 ERA) and struck out 12 while pitching two complete games.
For the season, Meredith and Shalise have combined to start 29 of Miami's 42 games (overall, freshman have started 36 games for the RedHawks). Meredith has a total of 30 appearances this season (18 starts and 12 in relief), pitched 135 innings thus far (9 complete games), and has an ERA of 3.21. Shalise has a 4-4 record in 11 starts with an ERA of 2.25.
Miami softball is 14-27-1 while playing a nomadic schedule that has taken the team to Flordia, Georgia, Tennessee, Nevada, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Of note, only nine of Miami's 42 games thus far have been played at home, where Miami sports a 4-4-1 record. Of Miami's remaining 20 games, 10 are at home and only two are outside the state of Ohio. Within the MAC, Miami is 4-4, which is good for fourth place in the MAC East.
