Senior Synchronized Skating Team
Our Hawks of the Week are the nineteen members of Miami's senior synchronized skating team. Miami's senior team represented the United States at the 2007 ISU World Championships and won the first medal for the United States in the eight year history of synchronized skating world championship competition. The team was in third place after the short program, but performing the second best free skate in the competition allowed Miami to leapfrog Russia 1 and win the silver medal, finishing second in the field of 21.
For the year, the senior team had another successful season. The team competed in three United States competitions and won two of them, while finishing second at the United States Nationals. Prior to the ISU World Championships, the senior team competed in two other international competitions and finished fourth at the World University Games and second at the Spring Cup.
Miami's synchronized skating program also experienced great success below the senior level. Miami's collegiate level team won multiple competitions this season, including its third consecutive US National Collegiate Championship. Also, Miami fielded a junior team for the first time since 1996, and the junior team finished fifth at the US Nationals in its level.
The Miami senior synchronized skating team is consistently one of the top teams in the world and the team also serves as wonderful worldwide ambassadors for Miami University. In honor of their history-making silver medal at the World Championships as well as their overall fine season, we honor the women of Miami's senior synchronized skating team as our Hawks of the Week.
