Victoria Pulido
Our new Hawk of the Week is tennis player Victoria Pulido. Victoria helped lead Miami to a weekend sweep and Miami's first two match winning streak of the season, with 5-2 victories over Murray State and Southern Illinois. Miami tennis has won three of its last five matches and is now 5-7 on the season.
Victoria led Miami with four victories this weekend. Against Murray St., she won her #5 singles match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0 as well as her doubles match (with partner Leda Pesatova) 9-7. She followed this performances up on Sunday with two more victories against Southern Illinois. She won her #5 singles match 6-2, 6-2 and her doubles match 8-1. For the season, Victoria is third on the team with five singles victories and tied for first with five doubles victories (with two different partners).
Victoria, a junior from Mexico, led Miami with 17 singles victories as a freshman and finished with 15 victories in the spring season during her sophomore season, giving her the top singles record of any returning RedHawk. She also posted a 7-1 MAC record last season.
Miami tennis embarks on its spring break trip next week with matches at Florida Atlantic and Florida International. Once they return to Oxford, the rest of the season is dedicated to the MAC schedule (with the exception of a visit from Xavier).
