Lashonda Davis
Our new Hawk of the Week is senior track and field athlete Lashonda Davis. Competing in the second track and field meet of the season, Lashonda paced Miami to a second place finish in the five team Bowling Green/Western Michigan meet. Lashonda won the 60 meter race with a time of 7.53 and also won the long jump with a distance of 19 feet, 2 3/4 inches. She was one of three Miami athletes to win their event this weekend (and the only one to win multiple events). In her first meet of the season, the Findlay Open in December, Lashonda also won both the 60 meters and the long jump.
For her Miami career, Lashonda holds the school record in the long jump (21 feet, making her one of only two MAC women to jump 21 feet) and is ranked second on Miami's all time scoring list. She is the defending MAC Outdoor Long Jump champion, was an All MAC First Team Outdoors selection in 2005 and 2006, and was an NCAA Regional Qualifyer in the long jump in 2006.
Miami's Indoor season continues this weekend at the Kentucky Invitational. Other dates of interest on the indoor calendar include the all-Ohio championships on February 10th and the MAC Indoor Championships on February 23-24.
