Notable Performances Over Winter Break
While most of Miami's teams have been off or on a limited schedule over the last three weeks, there have been several notable performances that we wanted to highlight before the winter/spring sports schedule begins in full force over the next week.
In women's basketball, Eve Pyle led a balanced Miami attack with 18 points and 8 rebounds in Miami's victory at IUPUI last week. This win concluded Miami's non conference schedule with a record of 6-7, and gave head coach Maria Fantanarosa her 132nd career win, making her the winningest coach in program history.
Hockey's Marty Guerin was the only Miamian named to the all tournament team at the Ohio Hockey Classic. Guerin had two goals and one assist in the two games as Miami beat Bowling Green but lost to Ohio State in the championship game.
In men's basketball, Nathan Peavy recorded his third double-double of the season with 21 points and 12 rebounds in last week's loss to UC. The loss dropped Miami's record to 4-8 as the non conference portion of the schedule (except for the Bracket Buster game) has concluded.
The most important part of the schedule for each of these teams begins this week, as both the men's and women's basketball teams begin MAC play - the women on Wednesday night at Buffalo and the men on Sunday at home against Kent State. Hockey begins a series of key CCHA contests by hosting Michigan State this weekend. Also, within the next several weeks, swimming, tennis, and track will resume competition as a new semester begins for Miami's student athletes.
We congratulate Eve, Marty, and Nathan on their fine performances over winter break, and wish all of Miami's winter/spring athletes the best of luck as athletics resumes with a full schedule.
