Ryne Robinson

Our new Hawk of the Week is senior football wide receiver/punt returner Ryne Robinson.  While Ryne had a typically fantastic game on Wednesday in the mud at Bowling Green, catching nine passes for 86 yards, this award also acknowledges the fine season Ryne has had amid the general disappointment of Miami’s football season.  Through 11 games, Ryne has 83 catches for 1,087 yards, placing him in the top 10 nationally in both categories.  Ryne also leads the nation with 7.55 receptions per game.  Combined with his 1,119 receiving yards from 2005, Ryne has also became the only player in Miami history to have consecutive 1,000 yard receiving seasons, and he will end his career as one Miami’s top all time wde receivers.

Even with opposing teams punting away from him or punting out of bounds in order to eliminate the possibility of a big return, Ryne will still end his career as one of the most dangerous punt returners in Miami and NCAA history.  Ryne currently ranks second in the all time NCAA record book for career punt return yardage, and only needs 85 yards to break the NCAA record.  He also has seven career punt returns for touchdown, one shy of the NCAA record of eight.  Of note, three of his seven career punt returns for touchdowns have come against OU.

Ryne and 10 other Miamians will be concluding football careers that have included a 30-19 overall record, two bowl trips, and three outright or shared MAC East titles this Friday versus OU - hopefully many of us will be able to watch in person or on ESPNU.
While we will still get to enjoy watching Ryne in a Miami uniform once baseball season begins, we wish to celebrate the many accomplishments of Ryne Robinson on the football field.  Ryne, congratulations on your accomplishments in the victory versus BG, over this entire season, and over the last four years.  For this, Ryne Robinson is our Hawk of the Week.
