Most Recent Story: Miami's Paterra Places Third at NCAA Championships
EUGENE, Ore. – Senior Tori Paterra saved her best for last for the Miami University women’s track and field team.
Paterra earned First-Team All-America honors by finishing third in the javelin at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Wednesday evening. She tossed a throw of 182-3 to post her highest finish in four tries at the national meet.
“That was the best start Tori had this year,” Miami assistant coach (throws) Stacey Wannemacher said. “I knew she was ready from the first throw of the night. The second throw she allowed her lower body to get into the throw. She nearly connected on an even bigger throw on the very next throw. She competed extremely well and it was a great day for her.”
Paterra achieved her throw, which was just over a foot shy of her school record, on her second try. That toss put her into the finals sitting in second place. Florida’s Fawn Miller ended up winning the event with a mark of 190-8 while Oklahoma’s Avione Allgood narrowly slipped past Paterra in the finals when her fourth throw landed at 182-4.
