Most Recent Story: Miami Remembers the Students and Faculty at Virginia Tech
Like many of you, we have been both horrified and transfixed by the scenes coming out of Blacksburg, Virginia over the past two days. Many of us have friends or family members with ties to Virginia Tech, and each of us can imagine the shock and terror of having a peaceful academic retreat violated in such a terrible fashion. We want to make you aware of two opportunities available to Miamians to share their sympathies and offer their condolences to the faculty, students, and families at Virginia Tech.
First, if you'll be in Oxford this evening, the Miami community will hold a silent candle lighting vigil at 6:30 PM this evening at the Shriver Fine Art Place (the patio behind the Shriver Center). While there, you can sign condolence cards that will be sent to the families of the victims.
Second, we have learned that the Virginia Tech alumni association will establish a "Family Fund" to memorialize the victims of this tragedy. Although donations from outside the Virginia Tech community may constitute only a small solace, we urge you to consider making one.
Thanks,
DG
