Most Recent Story: Reflecting on Two and Ten
Having patched the holes in the drywall and replaced the TV set, we mull over the season that was, and the inevitable question is just how big a step back did Miami take this season. If you prefer your glass half-full, Miami was outscored in MAC play by a total of 23 points (less than a field goal per game) and held its own against Purdue, despite playing most of the year decimated by injuries. If you’re a half-empty guy, you can watch any three special teams plays chosen at random, and we have heard more than enough stories about the level of disorganization on the sidelines to last a lifetime.
Either way, two and ten is two and ten, and something needs to change for next season. So, in no particular order (and with no particular coherence), we offer a few thoughts:
“Special” Teams. All too often this season, our special teams looked “special” in the bad, euphemistic way. While the tasks involved are, at bottom, quite simple, it takes disciplined, committed execution to pull them off, and that seemed to be missing this year.
