Most Recent Story: Basketball Next?
First off let me say that I love Charlie Coles.
Second, let me say that I love Charlie Coles as the head basketball coach at Miami.
Third, I love that Charlie Coles received a contract extension.
This is all a step in the right direction. However, let me tell you what I’d like to have happen. What I’d like to have happen is for the Miami basketball programs to get the same type of attention and infusion of resources that Football, Field Hockey, Softball, Baseball and Hockey have received.
One thing that I hear all the time is that the Hockey program has a legitimate shot at winning a national championship. I think that’s great. And, I’m all for it. However, I would suggest that George Mason received more money, more donations, more national attention and more bite from its recent NCAA run than the last NCAA national hockey champion.
What Miami needs to do is to pay its head basketball coaches more money. It needs to pay its assistant coaches more money. It needs to make the “administrative assistant” a paid position.
